Development with Dignity™ provides online training for after-school staff to increase practical effectiveness as they meet the educational standards required by New York City and State licensing regulations. During training, staff will gain tools to help students blossom into powerful, creative, and emotionally healthy members of society.

Development with Dignity ™ is a series of 15 workshops that create a strong foundation for working professionals to create an engaging and successful learning environment. Staff gain a greater understanding of the developmental needs of children learning techniques to educate their students while contributing to their emotional needs. We emphasize collaboration to inspire staff to work together in the classroom, creating a culture of teamwork.


ONLINE TRAINING EXPERIENCE

This synchronous training centers on real-time facilitation. Participants are provided with resources, tools, strategies and coaching to support them in creating collaborative experiences using whiteboards, chat, application sharing, breakout rooms and web browsing. Our intention is to encourage collaborative learning and project-based learning techniques in small groups. We will use the Vygotsky theory (1987) to guide our instructions as an interactive approach to learning.

NEW: Safety & Supervision: This Workshop will focus on identifying risk factors, raising awareness, and reviewing the policies and procedures. Develop best practices in supervision and assessment. Covers OCFS topics 3, 4 &5

NEW: An Introduction to the Quality Self-Assessment (QSA) Tool, Third Edition: Workshop will focus on clear quality standards and ongoing program assessment are central to building effective and sustainable afterschool programs. Improving afterschool program quality must begin with a commitment on the part of practitioners to examine their programs with a critical eye. A quality program is one that is reflective, willing to improve, change and grow, and believes in successful outcomes for its participants. OCFS topics 1,3,4,&5

NEW: Managing Difficult Behaviors: This workshop will focus on strategies, provide tools and solutions for handling challenging behaviors in the classrooms. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

NEW: Conflict Resolution: We will focus on developing strong conflict resolution skills. This is a critical component of healthy childhood development. These skills lay the foundation for lifelong success. We will establish systems for managing their emotions and problem solving and with others. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

NEW: Special Needs: The workshop will focus on understanding the different abilities of children. Identify individual strategies for supporting children with special needs and develop behavior plans. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

NEW: Creating A Learning Culture: Although COVID-19 will continue to affect our lives, our children deserve now more than ever to grow academically, both in the classroom and at home. This session will discuss creative ways in which we can encourage our children to explore their interests organically, based on theories of Self-Directed Education that allow children to engage in self-chosen activities rooted in their natural curiosities. When provided with an environment that encourages learning, children have the capacity to thrive in their educational pursuits. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

NEW: Trauma Informed Care Workshop: This workshop will explore the nature and the impact of trauma. Staff will not only identify the paths to recovery from traumatic life experiences, but also learn to recognize the signs and the symptoms of trauma in themselves and others within an organization, which will help prevent stressful experiences causing trauma at work. Everyone taking part in this training will leave feeling confident about integrating trauma-informed knowledge into policies, procedures, and practices, and will have the tools to maintain their newly established resilience to trauma. Covers OCFS Topic #9.

Creating a Viable Code of Conduct: Staff will learn how to create an environment that is beneficial to the health & safety of children. This session will focus on the creation of safe spaces, professional boundaries, physical affection and staff conduct with members, etc. Review of Child Abuse Mandated report regulations. Covers OCFS topics 6 & 8.

Partnership with Parents: This workshop supports staff with parent interaction. This training will teach staff how to create a welcoming and comforting environment for parents. Staff will learn how to work with families to support the development of children in the program. Covers OCFS topic 4.

OCFS Regulations with Safety, Health & Wellness (Promoting Safety, Health & Nutrition in Children & Youth): All staff will understand the OCFS requirements and their role in maintaining the school age child care permit. Creating an environment where families, children and staff feel safe and secure. This workshop will focus on creating an environment that protects and enhances the health and nutrition of children. Covers OCFS topics 2, 4, 5 & 7.

Classroom Management with Coaching & Guiding Children’s Behavior: This workshop will prepare staff to create an environment where children are engaged and cooperative. We will focus on teaching staff techniques to manage children in their classroom without using punishments such as threats, issuing orders, and time out. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Project-Based Planning (Curriculum Development): This workshop will teach staff how to do long term project-based learning with their children. Participants will understand the “Department of Education Academic Standards”. From this baseline, participants will learn how to develop strong objectives to keep the focus on building skills to support the child’s academic outcome. Through the project-based learning process, participants will design a step-by-step curriculum that promotes childhood learning in a fun, engaging and intentional process. The key is not to repeat the school day, but to spark the desire of learning by bringing the outside world into the classroom. Covers OCFS topics 1, 3 & 5.

Meeting the Developmental Needs of Children and Youth: This workshop will focus on the four developmental needs of children: social, physical, emotional and cognitive development. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Teaching Children Responsibility: This workshop will focus on teaching children how to make informed and responsible choices in their everyday lives. Staff will learn how to remind children to think about how their actions may affect others. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Team Building Strategies: This workshop will focus on getting staff to work together effectively. It will also provide activities that staff can do with children and youth to reinforce teamwork.  Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Creative Inspiration for Young People: As educators, we must first understand how to tap into our creative mind to inspire our young people to use their creative minds. This workshop will focus on understanding the process of sparking creativity in ourselves in order to then design an environment in which children can find their creative niche; writing, dancing, singing, drawing, photography, and acting, among others. Participants will walk away with a clear understanding of how to develop a curriculum to meet the developmental needs of their children by using a creative process. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.

Building your Classroom Facilitation Skills: Oftentimes we continue to do things the same way and find that children are getting restless or impatient. Well, this workshop will build your resources on how to keep children focused and engaged. Participants will learn how to design a classroom environment that doesn’t feel like school is still in session. Participants will learn how to adjust their approach according to each child’s needs in small or large group settings. Come build your bag of tricks to keep your sanity and get children engaged. Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children: Dignity of Children supports Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children curriculum, which is an evidence-informed child sexual abuse prevention training. In this training, your staff will learn how to identify, prevent and handle reported instances of child sexual abuse. In addition, they will also learn about New York's child abuse identification and reporting law. Covers OCFS topics 6 & 8.

Real Talk! Developing Emotional Intelligence for Our Kids Sake: Through conversation with others, we form our capacity to understand the world and develop our self-worth and purpose in life. This workshop will explore how we can create a learning culture in our classroom, where children and youth learn how to be in communication with others to develop their emotional intelligence and their critical thinking skills. We will introduce techniques to keep children and youth in communication about world issues and things that matter to them most. Our intention is to build children and youth sense self-worth, communication skills and literacy skills. Covers OCFS topics 1 & 3.
